What happened to Soul Glow Activatur?

Family Force 5 first came into the music market in 2006 with their release of “Business Up Front, Party in the Back.” Stemming from this album they created such a die hard fan base, it was no doubt they would become one of the most popular Christian artists in no time. Their Georgia roots mixed with punk rock and electronic beats made for music that couldn’t be classified into any one genre. They were paving their own path as a band, and people were noticing. As “Dance Or Die” and “III” came out, the band continued to push their boundaries by releasing songs of almost every genre. Along with their music, they made music videos that packed a punch. There was no reason for the band to not top the charts. They started being noticed by large festival and played single concerts with more than 25,000 people attending. It looked as if we were about to see a new face representing the Christian music market.

As their popularity came to an all-time high, Family Force 5 released their “Reanimated” album, which remixed many of their top songs. Their lead singer Solomon Olds, also known as Soul Glow Activatur, was heavily involved in this remix process. Obviously taking a like to the remix/producing side of music, he collaborated with NGEN Radio and became known as the “Phenomenon Radio Show” remixing music on Friday nights.

A couple months passed by, and we hadn’t heard any news from the band. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the band posts a video saying Solomon Olds was hanging up his gloves. He was no longer going to be the lead singer. This was a shock to everyone, but an understandable decision. His son, Cash Olds,

was just about to start school, and his family needed him at home. His DJ job was working out great, so there was no need for him to be touring constantly, away from his family. But what was next for the band? Where were they supposed to go from here? Jacob Olds (Crouton) decided to fill the void, and moved off the drums and into the role of lead singer. The band then continued on to release “Time Stand Still” in 2014. While it is inevitable to not take a hit from a lead singer leaving the band, the music on this album still ended up carrying the same feel as their other music. They incorporated some other big names in Christian music such as KB to increase the hype for the album. Recently, they released their second music video for the album. “Sweep The Leg” now has its own music video. I have to admit, while I love the song, I’m not sure the video stands up to the bands reputation they built so quickly. There were some cool effects, but the storyline lacked the luster provided by their previous music videos. While this album didn’t feel the same without Solomon Olds, I still believe there is a future ahead of Family Force 5, it will just be a longer, steeper climb.

But what about Soul Glow Activatur? What has he been up to? Is he still Djing for NGEN Radio? Is he going to release any solo projects? For those of us that truly loved this man’s creativity for the Christian music industry, we would hate to see such talent go to waste. Well, don’t worry. He’s not finished making music. In January Solomon will be playing a Phenomenon show for the Cloud Festival along with DJ Promote. Yes, he is still doing his show every Friday for NGEN

Radio. The biggest question yet to be answered is if he has any plans to release some of his own music in the future, or where he plans to take his career. He helped produce Family Force 5’s latest album. In theory, he has a contract with the band that allows them to get some footing as a band no longer led by Soul Glow Activatur before he comes out with his own work. So, if this is the case, he will stay under the radar for a while longer before he decides to show what he’s been doing. The lack of information provides a mysterious feeling that he has something in the works, and I don’t think anyone can wait to see what it is. It seems like Solomon Olds has a passion for the Christian music industry like no other person. Think of it like Kobe Bryant’s competitive spirit for the game of basketball. So is Solomon Olds’ passion for the music industry. While we all must wait, don’t think for one second that he’s done producing music, and be on the lookout what what he’ll be doing next!
